Differences:

The book and the movie, Summer of the Monkeys, are very different from each other. Both plot lines are some what the same with a little changes made in the movie. In the movie we are introduced to some new characters including Mr. Thatcher and boys that bully Jay. The monkeys, circus, and Mr. Lee’s name have all been changed.  They have also changed the number of monkeys that went missing and the money amount the circus offers. The movie doesn’t take the story as far as the book does however this could make it better and they could have created another movie. Had I not read the book this would have been a good movie, but for people who have read the book and love it I suggest that you do not watch the movie.

   Similarities:

Some things that the movie followed the book on were Daisy being crippled. Although she did not have her crutch Daisy was still crippled. The movie still included the storm that happened and Jay finding them in an opening. Jay at the end still ended up giving his prize money to Daisy so she could get her leg straightened out. Though some things where similar they made them have a little bit of a twist so it was not the same. The people at Disney could have done way better with this movie because in most ways it was not similar to the book.

  Suggestions:

The suggestions I have for the movie director are don’t add new characters into the story. Adding new characters makes the whole story go in a different direction and changes the way things have to happen. What would have made the movie even better is if the movie went farther into the story like when Daisy arrives home and when grandpa gave Jay his gift. One thing that they should not have added is the scene when the monkeys go into the house because that never happened in the book. They should have kept all the details the same such as the names, the circus, and even the money amount. A suggestions for the author of the book, Wilson Rawls, would be to make the end of the book more about what Jay had done for Daisy and how that impacted her life rather than making it about the fairy ring. All though they were completely different from each other they were both very good stories.
